It’s official: life has taken me eastward across the country. I started in Vancouver, BC, where I have lived most of my life, moved to Ontario 3 years ago to work with students through InterVarsity, and am now headed to the Halifax, NS for my MLIS.

Photo

firstbook:

In support of our effort, we will give away a book for every “re-blog”, “retweet”, and “share” we get of this message on twitter, tumblr and facebook. It was a wonderful experience of community — one of my favourites since starting at the office. How did this happen, you ask?

Leftovers. Apparently when there is free food, we congregate together and hover like vultures circling our little sandwichy prey. Who knew that little party sandwiches on those plastic circle trays would cause a whole roomful of office workers to come together in joy, unity, and communion?

Maybe next week I will make muffins and bring them into the office. Life in a box (aka Cubicle Life) isn’t so bad when you’re sharing food with friends.

-

This week at the office I also learned that we have a mail machine, and it not only puts the right amount of postage on your mail, it will SEAL YOUR UNSEALED ENVELOPE LIKE THERE’S A GIANT TONGUE IN THE MACHINE. Or something like that. Upon further investigation, I was disappointed to find that there is a bottle of water in the machine instead of a giant tongue. Still don’t quite know how it works, exactly. Here’s hoping it shoots a tiny but accurate stream of water in-between the envelope flap and the envelope itself. Like a tiny Super Soaker.

-

In other news, I got a call back from the library for an on-call position! I get to write an exam about the library this week! I was so excited I didn’t ask what I should expect on the exam! Should I memorize the Dewey Decimal System? Will they ask me to categorize my cardigans? Recite the first chapter of The Hunger Games (this generation’s dystopia of the decade… more on that later…maybe). Seriously, though, Dewey meant well but who actually memorizes that thing? And what is the method behind the madness? I’ve been a faithful and frequent user of the library for a quarter of a century (well, almost) and have still yet to memorize the DDS.

QUESTION:

If a blogger blogs a post and no one reads it, does it exist?
